What inspired you to start your business?

I thought the transactional way that people were hiring would never result in the best hires. People get jobs because of their smarts but they lose them by not having the right heart. I started ERG to change this. And after twenty-eight years we have.

 

What challenges have you faced as a woman in business?

I started in all male-dominated industries (Construction and Manufacturing) back when I was the only female recruiter. But instead of being intimidated, I used my intuition to my advantage.

 

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Be the Buffalo. The Buffalo is the only mammal that runs toward a storm rather than away from it to get through it faster. So in times of challenge, my motto is, Be the Buffalo, and it works!

 

In what ways has your membership in WPO impacted your personal or professional life?

I have loved being a part of WPO. My favorite experience has to be Harvard, where I was surrounded by some of the brightest and most dynamic business leaders. It was amazing to collaborate and learn together!

 

What are your goals or aspirations moving forward?

For sure write another book. Build out a national speaking/coaching platform to mentor young female leaders. Transfer knowledge so ERG is ready for the next group of leaders. Have the best time of my life.

 

What lesson have you learned that you can share with other women entrepreneurs?

Lean into being a dynamic female leader, do not let others steal your power! Stand strong, work hard and be the leader you were meant to be!
